This morning we all slept in (which was MUCH needed) and slowly got ready for the day. Brad fed the dogs while we enjoyed cereal and fruit. I had a heaping bowl of strawberry oat bites, which are shredded wheat with strawberry inside. I absolutely love them growing up and still do. It reminded me of my Grandma Rollings because she is the person who introduced me to them and would even wrap boxes of the cereal up as Christmas or birthday gifts. I always enjoyed breakfast at Grandma and Grandpa Rollings, usually eating cereal with a side of cottage cheese and fruit on top or applesauce, while watching them do crosswords in their bath robes. Fond memories!
Then Alayna picked up "Mutnik" a stuffed dog which is the Moondog mascot and said, "Grandpa Hawker give me". Last year, Bill took everyone to a Moondog baseball game in Mankato and bought all of the grandkids a souvenier. She says that every time she picks it up and says "Grandpa Hawker in heaven with angels". It is absolutely precious but tugs at our hearts too. Brad has been missing his father terribly as you can imagine especially when he goes out fishing or we watch Twins games.
As we drove in Mankato we drove past Farmer's Market and my heart started beating a bit faster. My grandpa Harold and grandma Evelyn used to sell veggies there and oftentimes my brother and I would go along to help. Alayna now says, "Great Grandma Evelyn...tomatoes". So sweet!
Well, sorry this is a sad post but it seems like we have been missing our loved ones more than ever lately. My grandpa B has been gone 21 years, my grandma B 4 years, grandma R 1 year and Brad's dad almost 2 months but even though the time is different we miss them all just as much.
