We drive past this sculpture two times a day so on Saturday we stopped by for some pics. It is really neat to see at night too.

Snapping turtle
The conspicuous 8-foot-tall snapping turtle at the corner of Broadway and South Front is the work of professional Sculptor Jesse Ellerbroek of Black Lantern Studio in Norseland and Artist Shawn Johnson of Iowa. They created the sculpture for Winterfest 2010 in St. Peter. A city crew used a front-end loader to place snow in the forms on Wednesday, Jan. 27.Johnson and Ellerbroek began carving it Friday afternoon, worked until midnight, and continued all day Saturday and into the night.
