Pub Crawl

Last Friday night we went on the second Pub Crawl that was put on by the Blue Earth County Historical Society. This time the crawl was focused around the Front Street/Brett’s building which is located in downtown Mankato mall. This used to be the hot spot for shopping back in the day and this gave us an opportunity learn more about the space which now houses a salon, a couple bars/restaurants and office buildings. We had a good crowd of 5 groups of 30 people and each group started at one spot where they spent 45 minutes then moved to the next spot. We began at Raydiance salon where we were greeted with snacks and wine and a quick tour. The salon exhibits art throughout the year from community artists or schools and then we listened to a couple other speakers give more information on the Brett’s building. Next stop was Carbone’s. We were disappointed that they didn’t provide enough pizza for the whole group. The speaker was cute but we could barely hear her – good information but she was in her 80’s and didn’t exactly have a booming voice! The Underground bar was our 3rd stop where we learned about the bootlegging (aka soda parlors) that Mankato had as well as the speakeasy’s. Great speaker and they had decent food. BW3’s was our 4th stop and we knew they would have good food lined up for us. We were in a back room which was nice so we could hear the speaker and spread out. Our final stop was the United Prairie Bank formerly Graif building. The bank provided wine, beer and hors d’oeuvres for each group and had nice speakers from the bank. The building is gorgeous and I couldn’t stop staring at the ceiling and marble pillars. Luckily we brought a friend of ours who is a master in architecture and interior design so she explained the intricacies of it all. Not that it made sense to me but it was neat to learn about! We had a great time with friends and then it was off to pick up Alayna at Uncle and Auntie Segal’s. She had so much fun playing with her cousin Austy.

Saturday we went to the fish fry in Courtland then rented the movie Law Abiding Citizen. Nice mellow day and Sunday was just as relaxing. My parents had us over for a big turkey dinner then we went home. I felt like I had a hangover all day and just couldn't shake it. Monday I had to pull over twice because I was so dizzy and only worked 2 hours. I went home and slept all day! Tuesday I woke up like a new person and felt 100% better. Not sure what it was but I did hear of a bug going around and some people had more stomach issues. I am thankful mine didn't get to that point. Wednesday we took Alayna to the St. Patrick's day parade in St. Peter. She loved the fire trucks, marching band and candy of course!
